Ethan's Birthday

Friday was Ethan's 7th birthday.  As I've said in the past, Ethan loves his birthday like no other.  For days before he regularly asked "how many more days?".  He made wish lists and plans and invited half of his school class to his birthday party.  I had to remind him of our celebration rule - that is, we give the kids the choice of having a friend party at the house or chosing an activity to do with one or two friends.  For the past several years the kids have chosen the activity option as they get to go places we don't frequent such as Chuckie Cheese, Jumpin Jacks, or the movie theater.
It was so exciting when the big day arrived.  I always hang up a sign the night before so it's there when the birthday person wakes up on their day.  Ethan chose chocolate, chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast.  Yummy!  It's like eating chocolate cake for breakfast (ok maybe not so healthy but you only get a birthday oncec a year, right!)  Later that day I dropped by the school to deliver chocolate cupcakes piled with mounds of brightly colored frosting to his class.  I left behind 22 happy, color-faced 1st graders who were very high on sugar.  The rest of the afternoon was spent with Ethan pacing, waiting for dad to get home (who unfortunately was very busy and stuck at work).  We finally met up with Benjamin and headed to Pirate Island Pizza, a very upgraded version of Chuckie Cheese.  The food options were much better and the atmosphere was fun, but the arcade area was insane.  I was sure we were going to lose someone.

After we'd had enugh pirate fun we headed home for cake, ice cream and presents.  This year Ethan wanted a round chocolate cake that said Happy Birthday and a #7 candle.  My easiest birthday creation yet!
