A birthday party and other things

Caleb turned 5 on Friday. We had a fun day. Benjamin had the day off because of the holiday. He spent the morning starting to build bunkbeds for the boys. Caleb decided to have Subway for dinner, then we had a party with presents and his "Peter Pan and Captain Hook fighting" cake (Benjamin took charge and made this one). Lately he has enjoyed playing with his cousin, Jonathon, and his Bakugan so we decided to get Caleb some of his own. He has hardly put them down since. He also loves bugs so he got a bug collection kit and some live bugs preserved in resin. He had decided he wanted to go see the new Ice Age movie and we ended up going to the 9:25 pm show. It was a late night but you only get to have a birthday once a year, right? It's still hard to believe he already 5 and getting ready for kindergarten.

Saturday Benjamin worked on the bunkbeds some more. In the afternoon we headed to Provo to check out the Freedom Festival activities. After wandering the booths for a while, we went to Benjamin's sister, Rachelle's, house for dinner and firworks.

Our female English Pointer is getting ready to have puppies. She is so fat it is both funny and sad. She is normally very active and her huge tummy has slowed her down. I have total sympathy for the poor girl. She is due on Saturday so it should be an exciting week waiting for the big day. I am getting a little nervous because we have been getting advice to people about the whole thing and we keep hearing how we have to deliver the puppies and cut the cords and everything. Then the hometeacher was telling us about all of the puppies they have lost and about giving mouth to mouth to one. I am getting a little freaked out about it now. Hopefully all will go well and we will have nice, healthly puppies.

My experimental garden is doing well so far. I am getting concerned that the plants are running out of root space. So far we have many tomatoes, a few cucumbers, out of control chives and a pepper on each plant. I am excited to enjoy some fresh veggies. Hopefully they will move ok to the new house. (which, by the way, will hopefully be by next week)
