Last week was our annual trip to Palisades State Park. It is about 5 miles past Manti, UT. It is one of our favorite places to go and we had a great time as usual.
We left Wednesday afternoon to drive down and on the way we got hit by a few raindrops on and off.. I was feeling a little nervous because all of our stuff was in the back of the truck and the utility trailer. Camping with wet gear is no fun. As we got closer to Ephraim, we could see black clouds ahead and Benjamin was concerned that it was really pouring in town. We started looking for a barn or somewhere we could pull into to wait out the storm. I told him to just try to make it to Ephraim and we could find a place to hideout there. We pulled into town just as a few raindrops started to fall. We stopped at an empty carwash and decided to pull in. Just as the truck pulled through the bay the storm cut loose. It was a solid downpour. We spent the next 45 minutes playing tag through the carwash bays and letting the dogs run in the fields next to us (in fact, Ally took off and we thought we'd lost her for good. Luckily she decided to come back eventually). Finally the rain let up and we headed down the road, everything still nice and dry.
We spent the next 3 days relaxing, paddling around in the canoes and kayaks, fishing, golfing (they have a golf course), catching minnows, and playing card games. The campground even has a GPS course that we did. It took us all the way around the lake and we learned all kinds of interesting facts about the area. The weather was beautiful and we didn't even have the usual windy afternoons. One day we drove into Manti for milkshakes and then higher up the mountain to shoot Nathaniel's BB gun. There is a platform anchored out in the lake and the kids loved paddling the canoe out to it to jump off. Jaxon was the first one of the kids to do it and he thought it was great.
If you are ever looking for a nice place to camp, you should check it out. They have decent bathrooms with showers, very few bugs, grassy areas, and you camp right along the edge of the lake. It is just a great place to be.
Oh and by the way, I am having some problem with blogger that I cannot make comments on any blogs or log into private blogs. Sorry about that.
